It’s Pongal here!!
-Abbhirami
For the people living in the southern parts of India, I don’t
really have to tell them what this fest is all about. For others, this festival
is just for the Sun. We are not only polytheists but also pantheists. The
supreme power that we can see while living on Earth is the Sun. It is because
of the Sun we call Earth to be the “living” planet. So it is just an act of gratitude
to the Sun, by a festival on the very first day in the Tamil month named “Thai” (the first
month in Tamil calendar).
Harvesting always begins in the month of ”Thai”, here. People
who own farms and cows celebrate this festival so grandly. If you ask me how to
celebrate this festival, all that you have to do is get up as early as possible
(before sunrise) and when you can see the sun rising from the horizon, thank
him from the bottom of your heart and make this sweet- “Pongal” ( sweet that is
made out of rice, jaggery and bits of coconut) for him.
